Every Friday, we’ll offer some of our thoughts on content marketing, curate a few interesting articles we’ve come across (from the legal industry and otherwise), and tell you what we’ve been up to.

Scribbles is abbreviated—and late!—this week, as my hands have been busy with pizza dough, cookie dough, and cake batter. No, it’s not for a client: I’ve been madly prepping for my holiday party, the Sixth Annual Festivus, modeled after the Seinfeldian holiday.

Though we’ve never contested the feats of strength, we have historically passed the Festivus pole around so we could air our grievances. However, in the last few years, I’ve chosen to bypass the complaints and instead dedicate the holiday to supporting the Podium Foundation, a nonprofit based here in Richmond that helps middle school and high school students develop their writing and communication skills. Podium gives students an opportunity for expression that is sorely lacking in today’s curriculum and even in extracurricular activities, given budget cuts to programs like yearbooks and newspapers.

The young people who participate in Podium get to explore creative projects, including poetry writing and open mic nights, as well as practical projects, such as learning how to prepare college applications. Their work is also published in semi-annual ‘zines and an annual literary journal.
